How your genes could impact on your acne
Whether or not acne is hereditary in the medical sense of the word, acne is certainly more common in those whose parents suffered from acne.
Impossible
If you suffer from severe acne it is impossible to predict whether your child will also get the disease.
Hormonal
Acne is widely thought to be a hormonal problem connected with the way skin reacts to testosterone (which is present in both men and women).
Testosterone
Men with acne usually have normal amounts of testosterone in their blood. Women with acne may have some abnormalities in the levels of testosterone but these do not influence the treatment they receive.
So, although there is evidence to suggest that acne is linked to the genes you inherit from your family, there isn't a lot you can do about it.
